The Aelorian Archives are not a single building, nor a single collection. They are an institution — a continuous body of stewardship devoted to one charge: that the memory of Khassid endure.
Mission & Mandate
To ensure that Khassid remembers
Across the long history of Khassid, kingdoms have risen and fallen, faiths have taken root, and the voices of gods have shaped the lives of mortals in countless ways. Much of what has occurred would have faded into rumor and contradiction were it not for those who committed themselves to preserving the world's memory.
The Archives were established by divine accord — proposed by Jasina, goddess of knowledge, and Illario, god of history, and accepted by the wider pantheon as a necessity that outweighed any single divine quarrel. They exist to gather, order, and preserve the histories, doctrines, cultural accounts, and theological study of a world that continues to change. They do not claim authority over truth. They preserve what has been recorded, and safeguard it against the passing of time.
On the Name
The name Aelorian derives from an ancient Syl'Aeris word meaning "that which is preserved against the passing of time." The Archives bear this name because they serve the same purpose their namesake once described: to ensure that knowledge endures even as the world moves forward.
Governance
Neutral Ground
The Archives are recognized as neutral territory by the gods themselves. No deity may wage war within their bounds, no divine servant may seize another visitor by force, and no mortal ruler may claim sovereignty there. Rival gods may enter the same chamber and consult the same record without turning the Archives into another battlefield. This is not friendship or forgiveness between the powers of Khassid — only an agreement that the preservation of knowledge serves a purpose greater than any single quarrel, divine or mortal. Even the gods are bound by the plane's wards while present. No singular deity, order, or sovereign authority lays exclusive claim to what the Archives hold.
Aleryn Duskwhisper
The 15th Keeper of the Aelorian Archives — chosen for that office, as every Keeper before him, by the Archives and its fellow Archivists. Separately, he holds the divine appointment of Exarch of Illario. The two offices are not linked; no previous Keeper held both at once.
Stewardship
The Office of the Keeper
The Keeper does not control history, nor dictate what shall be recorded. The Keeper's charge is to ensure that the Archives remain stable, neutral, and protected from misuse — overseeing the intake of records, resolving disputes among archivists, and determining the appropriate classification of sensitive knowledge.
The office is an institutional one, not a divine grant: the Archives and the Archivists who serve them choose who bears the mantle next.

Archivists & Scholars
The work of the Archives is carried out by archivists, correspondents, and visiting scholars drawn from across Khassid — those who gather testimony, observation, and record, and those who study what has already been preserved.
